A Week Between Palm Trees And Turtles
The Netherlands has a very cool capital city, Amsterdam. This city offers renowned museums, historical monuments, gorgeous canals and a vibrant nightlife, one of the most famous in Europe. It’s a very beautiful city and it’s one of the most visited cities in the world! Besides Amsterdam and the other big cities, the Netherlands has a lot to offer, some pretty charming towns and villages like Utrecht, Alkmaar, Volendam, Giethoorn, Middelburg, Zierikzee and Goes. Each town has its own quality and it’s really worth a visit; this country has a very good rail service, so if you are base in Amsterdam you can easily do daily trips in most of the towns around the country.
Everyone should visit Amsterdam at least once during their lifetime, if you’re planning a European trip or a city break, this city will be on the top of your list. Known as the Venice of the North, Amsterdam is a beautiful city that has a lot to offer, we were here in April 2012 for four days and we loved it, was quite cold but we had fun. A cool thing about Amsterdam, is that the city is small enough to walk or cycle almost everywhere, compared to other European capitals it’s more like a village.
The best time to visit the Netherlands is from April through September, when the temperatures are warm, flowers are in full bloom, and days are long, so you can take advantage of the city’s daytime activities and vibrant nightlife. One of the thing that I love most about this city are the canals and the bridges; a canal cruise is a must do activity in Amsterdam and just walking in the narrow streets along the waters will give you the sense of magic that this city has.
Our second time in the Netherland was in April 2016, we went to visit one of my best friends that is living in Groningen, and why not visit the country on King’s Day weekend! A magic atmosphere for the celebration of the birthday of the King, basically the country becomes orange, there are street markets everywhere, bands are playing on every street corner, every pub is serving beer outside and all around, people are dancing in their orange outfits, big party boats on the canals and in the main cities they organize music festivals, we went to the Groningen Kingsland Festival, very awesome.
Groningen is known for its student population, which makes it a vibrant city. You can feel the city’s energy when walking through the old streets, with its great shopping districts, pedestrianised streets, and with just 15 mins cycle in the countryside you will see beautiful windmills. It’s such a picturesque Country.
