MAY

TOP 10

Destinations

Summer starts to kick-in in Europe in May, a very good month to explore the beautiful European countries, the crowds are smaller than they are in summer, and yet the weather is still warm enough and the days are long enough to do whatever you like, thanks to the mild temperatures that are ideal for sightseeing.
Seville or Madrid in Spain, Porto & the Douro Valley in Portugal, Tuscany or the lakes in the North in Italy, the Greek beaches and the landscapes of Turkey’s Cappadocia are also perfect destinations in May, stay in a cave hotel before taking a truly memorable hot air balloon ride over the extraordinary pinnacles and valleys.
In the other side of the world, diving and snorkelling in North Queensland are incredible this time of the year or have a break in the paradise islands of French Polynesia. Back in Europe you can’t miss a fantastic cruise in the Norwegian Fjords or a trip in Iceland between volcanoes, waterfalls and hot springs.

May is a remarkable month for visiting Norway's fjords. This is the time to take advantage of longer days, and the melting snow creates natural waterfalls everywhere. Another fantastic area of Norway are the Lofoten islands, there are breath-taking sceneries with mountain peaks, Arctic fjords & tiny fishing settlements, arguably the most beautiful and unique location of Norway in my opinion.

Summer is arriving to Italy. With the temperatures that are getting warmer, in the South of Italy, in the Region of Sicily and Campania for example, it's the perfect time for a road trip or a sightseeing in one of many beautiful towns in the Amalfi coast or Taormina, Noto and Catania in Sicily. Another fantastic spot are Le 5 Terre in Liguria where you can hike between the villages, in a 11 km trail (called the Blue Trail) connecting Riomaggiore to Monterosso al Mare with breath-taking views.

Summertime is a great time to visit Iceland, days are way longer and the sun it still up at midnight! But you cannot see the Northern Lights (from November to March). In May there are plenty of outdoor activities available in this fascinating country, whale watching, horseback riding, hot springs, glacier hiking and volcano biking.

ICELAND

I love Spain, every time we visit this fantastic country which never stops surprising us. If you are lucky with the weather, in the the Balearic Islands is already time for a nice pre summer break. While in the mainland, you have plenty of options, Barcelona, Seville, Madrid, Valencia, Cordoba, Santander...

There isn’t a best time to visit Brazil, it’s a year-round destination, the warmer months of the year are also the wettest. May to August are the best times to visit Brazil due to the comfortable temperatures and lack of rain. Explore Rio de Janeiro, May is a perfect month to enjoy sightseeing throughout the city and quality beach time in Copacabana. Go wildlife crazy in the Pantanal. Cruise through the Amazon river. Discover the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls, where you can only walk above the cascades, while the Argentina side allows you to cruise upriver.

BRAZIL

A beautiful country with plenty of fantastic landscapes, that really surprised me in our last trip in 2019. Rugged coastlines, beautiful castles, one of the main thing to do is to drive the spectacular Causeway Coastal Route - rated one of the top road trips in the world. The Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle and Mussenden Temple are just few of the fantastic places to visit.

NORTHERN IRELAND

After the freeze of winter and before the hot temperatures of summer, May is a pleasant time to visit Russia. Since most international flights arrive or at least stop in Moscow, you can start your trip here to then explore St. Petersburg (very easy to reach by train). Russia's capital is a magnificent mix of greenery, stunning architecture, and lots of history. The center is where the most important buildings are, the Kremlin, Red Square, and the colourful St. Basil's Cathedral.

RUSSIA

One of my favourite countries in Europe. Great food, great people, incredible coast lines and beautiful cities to explore. Starting from the North of the country, Porto is a perfect destination for a weekend, and you could add a day trip in the Douro Valley. Lisbon and Sintra are absolutely stunning. While in the south, the Algarve region has a landscape that you will not find anywhere else in Europe.

PORTUGAL

09

Malta is in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea directly south of Italy and north of Libya. In May you will find already a perfect temperature for a summer holiday. Malta is full of history, stunning views, glorious sunshine and plenty of places to enjoy both Mediterranean and local food. The Blue Lagoon in Comino Island (jut accessible by boat) is the must thing to do in Malta.

MALTA

The best time to visit Morocco is during spring (mid-March to May) or fall (September to October). The North African country is an electric destination with something for everyone. From exploring the Blue Streets of Chefchaouen to relaxing in the beautiful beaches of Essaouira, from spending a fantastic overnight in the Sahara Desert to visiting the Tanneries in Fez and Casablanca's Mosque. You will fall in love with Morocco.
